Walmart Chooses South Carolina for Next High-Tech Distribution Center

Walmart has opened a 725,000-square-foot distribution center in Wellford, South Carolina, designed to move fresh and frozen food faster to its stores. The new facility will supply 180 Walmart locations with produce, dairy, meat, eggs, and frozen items.

This is the third of five high-tech perishable distribution centers Walmart is building across the country. Others are already operating in Lancaster, Texas, and Shafter, California. These facilities use advanced automation to process more than double the volume of a traditional center, part of Walmart’s plan to modernize its supply chain.

Robots handle tasks such as moving cases on and off pallets, while AI tracks pallets to ensure accuracy and freshness. The technology also helps build pallets for each store so fragile items like eggs are placed at the top, reducing damage…
