COLUMBIA, S.C. — A proposed housing development near downtown Columbia could soon change the look of the 1200 block of Gregg Street.
The plan is a three-building, multi-family complex featuring more than 300 apartments, including 61 one-bedroom, 53 two-bedroom, and 200 three-bedroom units. Amenities would include a pool, a lounge, and both short-term and long-term bicycle parking. Residents would also have access to a 74-space surface lot and a six-story parking garage with more than 600 spaces. Access to the development would come from three driveways on Gregg Street and a new driveway along Barnwell Street.
Jonathan Chambers, Land Development Administrator for the City of Columbia, said the development is for anyone to live in, both students and families, and it would provide “more options for people to live, and to live close to downtown. Being in that area, it’s close to the university, downtown, the State House, city offices, county offices, and that type of thing.” Chambers adds the apartments are standard units, not dormitories, and could be rented by both students and non-students…
