Ex-SCDC employee accused of smuggling $2,500 worth of grillz into prison

LEE COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A former South Carolina Department of Corrections employee has been fired after allegedly attempting to smuggle “grillz” into Lee Correctional Institution.

Authorities have charged 36-year-old Sharon E. Smith with conspiring to bring custom dental jewelry, commonly known as grillz, into the facility for an inmate.
