The Woody on Main, a staple of local entertainment in the Midlands, has announced they will be closing their doors. The announcement was made in a post on their Facebook page Wednesday morning.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that The Woody on Main will be closing at the end of October. We have loved being part of so many lives, events and parties over the last 5 years on Main Street, but between opening a month before Covid hit, surviving that year of Covid with reduced hours and capacity, and the continuing rise of liquor liability cost and overhead, it’s just impossible to exist. We don’t plan to go silently and hope that everyone finds some time to come visit us before we close. Similar to 6 years ago we had hopes to secure a new location before closing, but haven’t settled on a new place as of yet.”
The Woody on Main was a lifelong dream of the late Woody Windham, a well-known radio personality in Columbia for over 55 years. He talked about owning a dance club on Main Street, in historic downtown Columbia, and that dream came to fruition in 2011 when the Windham family opened The Woody in the Vista.
