A South Carolina-based prison employee was caught smuggling in a $2500 grill to inmates. Grillz help to bling out teeth and come in all styles and metals. So, why did they do this, and what was their penalty for the smuggling? Keep reading for more details.
South Carolina Prison Employee Caught Smuggling $2500 Grillz
For decades, Grillz have become a fun mouth accessory, somewhat like tooth jewelry. They can be made with diamonds, platinum, gold, and silver. Furthermore, they can be extremely pricey, but for the right client, they are more than worth it. Now, a South Carolina prison employee is being accused of smuggling in a $2500 grill to an inmate. The big question is why they would choose to jeopardize their job for something like this, and what did they stand to gain? Thirty-six-year-old Sharon Elizabeth Smith worked at a prison canteen when she was caught.
The warrant for Sharon stated that she had tried to bring “a set of custom jewelry teeth coverings, commonly referred to as grillz, to an inmate.” Moreover, she confessed to doing this and did not try to hide her crime. Sharon was let go from her position and was charged with criminal conspiracy. On September 10th, 2025, the grillz were allegedly found in her car. At the end of the day, these tooth pieces cost an estimated $2500, although it is unclear why she chose to bring them in. However, it seems that the grillz were not just for one inmate but rather several.
Could she and her co-workers make a lot of money off of those behind bars? That is questionable. Now, some outlets have reported she was a canteen worker. Yet, others claimed that she was a former corrections officer.
Losing It All
Regardless, what the South Carolina prison employee did was unacceptable, and has cost her a lot. Sharon Elizabeth Smith has lost her job and now has charges brought against her. This is not an uncommon situation, as inmates and employees have long worked side by side. Some enter a romantic relationship while others help the prisoners escape. Although it was not a weapon, grillz are considered a form of “contraband,” which is why it was such a big deal. Followers of this story could not help but joke about what happened:
- The day I see an uploaded music video from a prisoner inside the prison is the day I give on music
- Rumor has it that she tried to smuggle it In her prison pocket and when they found it With the flashlight it was smiling at them
This is a very interesting and somewhat comical story, but it shows that no one and no items are above the law. Had you heard about this, or is this your first time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
