LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington County Council voted Monday against a proposed townhome development, citing concerns over already strained schools, while approving another subdivision in a different school district.
Council members rejected the Avanti Townhomes project, which called for 83 attached townhomes on 22 acres west of Longs Pond Road. Lexington School District One officials warned that Deerfield Elementary, which would serve the community, is at capacity. The district said it would need three portable classrooms to accommodate just 20 additional students.
“There’s charter schools coming, the school’s aren’t a thing for me, but I’m going to go with the planning committee’s decision as that’s what we appoint them to do, and it’s the first time they have done it,” Councilmember Michael Bishop said…
