The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) has implemented a significant change to its licensing requirements: only U.S. citizens and permanent legal residents (Green Card holders) are now eligible to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) in the state.
The updated policy restricts the issuance of new CDLs, as well as the renewal or transfer of existing CDLs, to these two categories of residents. Previously, individuals with certain other temporary legal statuses were able to apply for and hold commercial licenses.
