‘Work of the Lord’: Former S.C. deputy returns home after Mexico arrest

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. – A former South Carolina deputy is now back in the state after being held in a Mexican jail for days.

Former Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Russell Lynch says he was sightseeing near the Mexico border in Texas last week when he accidentally crossed the border with firearms in his jeep.

Lynch said he was facing multiple charges that carried a penalty of six years minimum in prison and 30 years maximum.
