Russell Laffitte sentenced prison for role in Murdaugh financial crimes

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) Former Palmetto State Bank CEO Russell Laffitte was sentenced to prison Monday morning in a Richland County courtroom on state charges stemming from financial crimes connected to former attorney and convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh.

Laffitte had previously been found guilty in November 2022 of several financial crimes, a ruling later overturned due to trial errors that violated his fifth amendment rights.

He pleaded guilty in April 2025 to federal charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, bank fraud, and three counts of misappropriation of bank funds…
