Columbia woman celebrates 100th birthday

Edith Ruth Diggs Miller was born on October 14, 1925, in Columbia, South Carolina, and has made a lasting impact on her family, community, and church throughout her remarkable life. She resided at 1318 Harden Street and received her education in the Richland County public school system. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Edith was active in student life, notably serving as a majorette in the school band.

Following her schooling, Edith entered the workforce and held several positions, including working as an elevator operator. She later retired from Tapp’s Department Store, a Columbia landmark located on Main Street, after years of dedicated service.

Edith has been a longtime resident of the Standish Acres/Burton Heights Community, where she has been a beloved neighbor and friend. Her spiritual life has been anchored in her membership at First Nazareth Baptist Church, where she is a life member.
