A Midlands student had a gun in their backpack, school district says

An elementary student brought an unloaded handgun to school in their backpack, a Midlands school district told parents on Tuesday.

Administrators at Batesburg-Leesville Primary School were told a student was carrying a weapon on Tuesday, the Lexington 3 school district said in a message sent out to parents.

A school resource officer investigated and found an unloaded handgun in the student’s backpack. No ammunition was found, and the school did not identify the student’s age or grade in the message…
