Another year and another crushing loss to Alabama.
This time South Carolina had the Crimson Tide on the cusp. The Gamecocks scored 16 unanswered points to go up 22-14 and had the crowd at Williams-Brice Stadium on the verge of a celebratory riot. In a season full of so many disappointments, South Carolina was finally going to have something to cheer about. But they left too much time for Alabama. Too much time for Ty Simpson. Too much time to be disappointed again.
Another 4th Quarter Failure
With 10 minutes left, the Gamecocks were up by eight and had put together a strong enough defensive performance that it looked like it was going to stick. But then Alabama pulled out its best drive of the game, a 14-play, 79-yard effort that took almost eight minutes off the clock. Simpson threw a short touchdown pass to Germie Bernard and added the two-point conversion to tie the game.
Then disaster really struck…
