SLED charges 18-year-old Richland County man with carrying weapon on S.C. State campus as shooting investigations continue

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged Treveion James Crawford, 18, of Richland County, with carrying a weapon on school property as investigators continue to probe two shootings that occurred at South Carolina State University earlier this month.

According to SLED, Crawford was seen in video footage taken around 8:33 p.m. on October 4 in the courtyard of Hugine Suites, carrying a black handgun inside a gray vest. Witness statements corroborated the footage, and Crawford was later arrested and booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

SLED confirmed it is investigating two separate shootings that happened at S.C. State that same night. One incident left 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler dead, while another involved a man who was injured.
