A GoFundMe campaign is helping a grieving South Carolina family honor the life of Amos Ramon Gary, a beloved father, brother, and security guard who died protecting others during a mass shooting at Willie’s Bar and Grill on Oct. 12.

Gunfire erupted outside the packed venue on St. Helena Island, killing Gary, 54, along with three others and injuring twenty more. His family launched the fundraiser to cover funeral costs and seek justice for what they call a “senseless act of violence.”
“He was more than just a victim,” wrote his sister on the GoFundMe page. “He was a kind, loving, and vibrant soul who meant the world to everyone in his family and community.”
Beloved father and family man
Known affectionately as “Junior,” Gary was a father of two and one of 11 siblings. He grew up in Beaufort and worked several jobs to support his family, including part-time security at the bar. On the night of the shooting, witnesses said Gary tried to shield others from gunfire.
