COLUMBIA, S.C. — In August 2025, South Carolina Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC Housing) announced a new program aimed at recruiting home builders in the state to commit to constructing affordable workplace housing in an effort to reduce the housing crisis in South Carolina.
On October 31, 2025, SC Housing announced the first five builders to be help launch the Made It Home! Program with the commitment to build the first suite of 130 homes. The builders are:
- D.R. Horton – 40 homes
- Gainey Construction Co. – 15 homes
- Housing Development Corporation of Rock Hill – 15 homes
- McGuinn Homes – 45 homes
- Oak and Ave Property Group – 15 homes
Although site selections are still underway, several counties — including Richland, Orangeburg, Dorchester, Florence, Darlington, Spartanburg, and Sumter — are being explored for construction opportunities. The 130 homes will not be in one single site but scattered across the state, with several of the planned homes to be located in high-cost-of-living areas where municipal and county partners are helping reduce the cost of construction by waiving certain fees and/or donating land.
For each completed and sold home, participating builders will be awarded a $12,000 cost-offset subsidy…
