COLUMBIA, S.C. — Hundreds of people lined up at Benedict College’s Business Development Center for the annual Driver’s License Reinstatement Clinic, a free event designed to help residents clear old suspensions, unpaid tickets, and other legal barriers that can affect work, housing, and daily life.
Michael Williams, who traveled from Sumter, said the clinic provided a much-needed opportunity for him and others in similar situations. “Well, first of all, just even talking to a lawyer or an attorney about your case or whatnot, you have to pay up front or whatnot. This at least gets you that first free meeting, so you can know exactly where to go to. And this also is gonna alleviate some of that cost as well, possibly. So just that possibility, that brings hope. And that’s what I feel like a lot of people need right now,” he said.
“I’m doing this not only for myself, but to better other people. I know without this right here, it’s been a bumpy road trying to get in contact with certain people. And this takes a lot of that, it alleviates all the basic stress,” Williams added…
