COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Richland County Library’s newly named Executive Director, Tamara King, is launching a “Library Joy” initiative aimed at bringing more community connection and programming to the library system.
King said the concept emerged from wanting to counter negative perceptions of libraries amid recent intellectual freedom challenges and book-banning controversies.
“I think it’s just been a really rough year. It’s been a rough few years for libraries in particular,” King said. “We’re always on the news for intellectual freedom challenges and banned books. And I think sometimes people forget or people have maybe sometimes forgotten that everybody has that good library story.”…
