South Carolina attorney general targets major phone companies in new phase of robocall crackdown

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) – If it feels like your phone is ringing with more spam calls than ever, state officials said you’re not imagining it.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced a sweeping new enforcement effort aimed at four of the nation’s largest voice providers, accusing them of allowing massive volumes of illegal robocalls to reach consumers.

Wilson said Phase Two of the multistate Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force directs Inteliquent, Bandwidth, Lumen, and Peerless to immediately stop transmitting suspected illegal robocalls across their networks. The bipartisan task force, formed in 2022 and made of attorneys general from 51 jurisdictions, is investigating companies believed to be responsible for routing high volumes of scam calls into the United States…
