Crime in South Carolina plummets for 4th year in a row

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Violent and property crime has dropped sharply across South Carolina for the fourth year in a row, with murder and aggravated assault hitting pre-pandemic levels.

Data reported to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division from participating law enforcement agencies shows the violent crime rate fell 8.4% from 2023 to 2024.

South Carolina health officials are reporting eight new measles cases since Tuesday in an ongoing outbreak.
