Caughman’s Meats celebrating 70 years

Billy and Marguerite Caughman started a wholesale and meat processing plant in downtown Lexington back in 1955, not realizing just how much the business would grow. Caughman’s Meats is now celebrating 70 years of providing quality meat products to the Lexington area.

“We’ve gotten much, much bigger,” Alacia Quinton said about the growth of her parents’ business. “I’m sure our parents would be proud.” Quinton and her brother, Ronnie, now run daily operations for the business.

Quinton says Lexington has grown quite a bit since her parents founded Caughman’s Meats. “The first actual slaughterhouse was in downtown Lexington, but my daddy thought that it would be better to move it out of the town limit as a courtesy, so he moved it two and a half miles from the town limit at that time. Now the town limit has grown and comes up to our facility,” said Quinton.

Over the past 70 years, Caughman’s Meats has expanded its products and services. They offer smoked items, deli items, seafood, and cheeses, along with fresh cuts of pork, beef, and poultry. Patrons will also find pudding, hash, and scrapple at Caughman’s. And the biggest seller? Onion sausage…
