COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A motorcycle ride that began 25 years ago with three friends and 100 bikes has grown into a major community effort that serves hundreds of veterans across South Carolina.
The Veterans Charity Christmas Ride will take place Sunday, Dec. 14, starting at 2 p.m. at Carolina Honda on Buckner Road. The nine-mile ride ends at Dorn VA Medical Center, where participants deliver gifts to hospitalized veterans.
“We started it with that concept to bring Christmas to Dorn V.A. Medical Center,” said Jim Wertman, one of the ride’s original organizers and a 30-year military veteran. “We had no idea that it would ever grow to what it has grown into now.”…
