S.C. measles cases surge, doctor talks local outbreak fears

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — The South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) has reported 15 new measles cases in the upstate, bringing the grand total of reported cases to 129.

While most of these cases have been in the northern part of the state, a local infectious disease physician said there is still a risk of it spreading to the Lowcountry.

“As people travel, as people gather and congregate, the concern is that there will be more – hundreds and maybe thousands – of cases if we’re not careful,” said Novant Health’s Dr. Taras Nebeluk…
