South Carolina prisoners knit holiday gifts for elderly residents

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The South Carolina Department of Corrections is partnering with the Department of Aging to deliver more than 1,400 handmade gifts to elderly long-term care residents across the state.

Prisoners at 21 facilities volunteer to knit blankets, stuffed animals, hats and scarves for the holiday program.

“Volunteer so they can give back to the community. They take this thing with a lot of pride. And if you talk to them personally, you’ll find out that I made that. I made that right there,” Director of the South Carolina Department of Corrections Joel Anderson said…
