Leland Cheeks, a 32-year-old from Richland County, South Carolina, led deputies on two high-speed chases on Friday night, resulting in his arrest.
Initial Pursuit
The incident started around 10:10 p.m. near Garners Ferry Road and Greenlawn Drive. A deputy observed Cheeks driving recklessly—speeding, failing to maintain his lane, and running a red light—then attempted a traffic stop. Cheeks fled at high speed, passing on the right and making evasive maneuvers, until the deputy lost sight near West Beltline Boulevard and Farrow Road.
Second Chase
About 10 minutes later, another deputy spotted the vehicle near Parklane and Brighton Hill roads and tried to stop him again. Cheeks sped off once more, striking another vehicle on I-77…..
