South Carolina bill would give families access to missing persons’ phone data

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) — A new bill at the South Carolina State House could change how missing person cases are handled, giving families access to critical cell phone information.

The legislation is tied to the case of South Carolina native Daniel Robinson, who disappeared in Arizona in 2021. His family has not been able to access his cell phone.

Democratic state Sen. Russell Ott of Calhoun County pre-filed the Help Find Missing Americans Act, working closely with Robinson’s family. It would allow the account holder of a missing person’s device to submit a written request to the service provider for limited information…
