Water leak, flooding close Elgin Town Hall on Monday

ELGIN, S.C. — The town hall in Elgin will be closed on Monday as crews work to clean up flooding and assess damage.

Mayor Melissa Emmons said a water heater at the town hall ruptured sometime after midnight on Sunday, and water wasn’t turned off until 6:30 a.m. Emmons said the area of the town hall affected by the leak had water roughly an inch deep in places.

Because the water has been shut off and due to ongoing work to clean the area, Elgin officials announced that the town hall would be closed on Monday as they work with a plumber to find a temporary fix…
