Multiple fires in this Columbia community displace 16 people over New Year’s Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Sixteen people have been displaced after homes were destroyed in fires over the New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day holiday.

Columbia-Richland Fire Department reports, for the second night in a row, crews responded to a fire involving multiple homes in The Summit subdivision in northeast Richland County. In the latest fire, firefighters arrived on the scene at Hidden Pines Road shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday, January 1, to find one home completely involved and the fire spreading quickly to a neighboring home.
