COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The Columbia Police Department (CPD) announced a man has been charged in the Jan. 2 fatal shooting.
Chief W.H. Holbrook said Michael Hampton II is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a weapon by a convicted violent felon, first-degree burglary, kidnapping, and first-degree assault and battery. Hampton is at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Officers said they were dispatched on Friday, Jan. 2, to the 200 block of Westwood Avenue just before midnight. They found a man who had been shot and was unresponsive. EMS said the man died at the scene.
