Trinity Episcopal Cathedral survives Columbia’s turbulent history

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Trinity Episcopal Cathedral stands as Columbia’s oldest surviving church sanctuary, housing centuries of history within its walls and graveyard.

The cathedral’s bell predates the building itself, crafted by the same English company that made the Liberty Bell, said Connie Britt, a longtime member and historian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Inside the cathedral, walls display names of members who served in wars dating back to the Civil War, including Confederate soldiers who worshipped there. Among the memorial names, Britt found records of young casualties that illustrate the war’s toll…
