Man tried to save girlfriend before both were struck by alleged DUI driver, family says

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) – The loved ones of a 29-year-old South Carolina man who was fatally struck by a car while crossing the street with his girlfriend are doing their best to cope with his loss as the suspect is being held without bond.

Malcolm D. Johnson, 29, died after he was hit by a car Sunday night in downtown Columbia, according to Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford.

The suspect, 29-year-old Randall Miller, is accused of driving while impaired. He reportedly ran a stoplight and hit both Malcolm Johnson and his girlfriend, Aurora Agee, who were in the crosswalk. Agee’s family identified her in speaking with WIS on Tuesday.

Malcolm Johnson’s mother, Claudia Johnson, spoke in court during Miller’s bond hearing on Monday. She said her son was in the area getting food and pushed Agee out of the way before both were hit. She said his favorite character was Batman and called him a hero for his final actions…
