‘Extra duties as assigned’ | Bill would end clause in teacher contract allowing for extra unpaid work

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Teachers say the job often stretches well beyond the school day. Many are assigned additional duties, such as bus duty or after-school club sponsorships, sometimes without extra pay. One bill aims to change that.

The proposal would limit what school districts can require teachers to do as part of their base salary to classroom instruction and closely related duties.
