Aloka, the Buddhist Monks’ dog, undergoes surgery in SC during the Walk of Peace

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — For months, Aloka the dog has walked mile after mile with the Buddhist Monks, spreading a message of peace. During their journey through South Carolina, Aloka unexpectedly took a detour to the Lowcountry to undergo surgery on a leg injury.

Buddhist Monks have been walking from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., spreading a message of peace. Their beloved dog, Aloka, joined them, but after suffering a medical injury in Lexington, South Carolina, his journey took a pause.

This walk for peace is so meaningful to many people in this country right now, explained Charleston Veterinary Referral Clinic Medical Director, Dr. Sophy Jetsy. “I just got goosebumps. It’s such a great honor to be able to provide this service for this dog, because he does mean so much to so many people who have been following this walk for peace.”
