Kroger, apartments moving closer to construction at Richland Mall redevelopment

FOREST ACRES, S.C. — Construction on both a Kroger grocery store and new apartments at the former Richland Mall site is expected to begin this summer, according to city officials.

At Tuesday’s Forest Acres City Council meeting, City Administrator Shaun Greenwood announced that bids have gone out to contractors for the grocery store and the first phase of apartments, clearing the way for construction to move forward in the coming months.

City council approved rezoning the property in December, allowing the site to transition into a Planned Development District. The rezoning permits up to 675 housing units and nearly 170,000 square feet of retail and commercial space…
