Freezing temps pose heating dangers: What to know

LEXINGTON, S.C. — As freezing temperatures move into the Midlands and the threat of power outages grows, fire officials are urging residents to prepare carefully and warning that the wrong heating choices can quickly turn dangerous.

Assistant Chief Brian Haley, fire marshal with the Irmo Fire District, said many winter emergencies happen because heating sources are used improperly when the power goes out.
