New federal SNAP work requirements now in effect in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – New federal work requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) took effect in South Carolina on Feb. 1, expanding who must meet hourly work rules to keep receiving benefits.

The changes stem from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law on July 4, 2025, by President Donald Trump.
