Literacy SC Brings Cursive Back to Families in Columbia

The nonprofit Literacy SC has launched a new class that will help give families the ability to sign their names with confidence. This low cost family course, Signature Ready: Confident Cursive, runs once weekly February 25 to April 1 and provides a supportive environment, face-to-face instruction, and all the tools to master signing your name in cursive.

While cursive has largely faded from modern school curriculum, the handwritten signature remains a vital tool for personal independence. Whether signing a lease, a voter registration card, or a bank document, a confident signature is often the final step in a significant life transaction.

“There is a profound sense of pride that comes with ‘signing off’ on your own future,” said Lisa Cole, CEO of Literacy SC and West Columbia native. “Signature Ready will give Columbia families more refined motor skills to confidently navigate life.”…
