COLUMBIA, S.C. — A long-vacant historic building in downtown Columbia could soon see new life, as a developer proposes plans to convert the former Veterans Administration building on Assembly Street into a full-service hotel.
According to the company’s website, Georgia-based Capstone Property Group is under contract to purchase the vacant property at 1801 Assembly St. Developers estimate the project will cost just under $40 million and could become either a Hilton or Marriott-branded hotel.
