Infant safely surrendered in Lexington County under Daniel’s Law

LEXINGTON, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) reports officials at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia accepted an infant safely surrendered under the state’s Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, commonly known as Daniel’s Law, on Wednesday, February 11.

Born just two days earlier at the hospital, the white baby girl weighed 2 pounds, 2.4 ounces and measured 13.7 inches long at the time of the birth. A medical evaluation was completed and the infant will remain in the hospital to receive additional medical care.

Lexington County DSS took custody of the infant, based on the mother’s residence, after it was surrendered at the hospital in Richland County…
