During the month of February so far, the South Carolina Department of Commerce has announced four manufacturing investments, with three projects in the Upstate (northwestern) region of the Palmetto State, and a fourth east of those the state’s Midlands region. Comprised of three relocations and one expanding company — Hydrite Chemical Co. in Laurens County, the investments are expected to total $153 million and create nearly 160 jobs.
Coastal Precast Systems, LLC, a manufacturer of precast and prestressed concrete components for bridge and marine infrastructure, has selected Laurens County for its first South Carolina operation. The company’s approximately $9 million investment will create about 70 new jobs.
For more than 75 years, Coastal Precast Systems has supplied a variety of concrete materials to the construction industry, including precast bridge components, building structures and marine projects. The company is headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia, and has existing plants in North Carolina and Virginia.
