Magnitude 2.8 earthquake shakes the Midlands

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has reported that a light magnitude 2.8 earthquake was recorded Friday evening approximately 3 to 4.5 miles west-southwest of Irmo.

According to the USGS, the quake which occurred at 6:43 p.m. had a very shallow depth of 3 miles (5 km) and could be felt by people living in Irmo, Columbia, West Columbia, Lexington, and the Lake Murray area…
