I-26 reopens after brief shutdown due to downed line

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A section of Interstate 26 near Cayce is back open after a brief shutdown Wednesday afternoon due to a downed fiber optic cable.

The incident was in the westbound lanes at exit 115, which is near US 21 and 321 in Cayce and not far from the interchange with I-77.

The City of Cayce issued a statement saying a large diameter fiber optic cable came down at that location. The line was across the roadway. Traffic cameras showed an extensive backup at that location…
