COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division announced Thursday that a former South Carolina custody officer was arrested for the alleged abuse of a vulnerable adult.
Gregory Marcel Higgins, 44, was arrested and charged Wednesday with one count of abuse of a vulnerable adult after SLED received a notification from Wellpath Recovery Solutions, a psychiatric hospital run through the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
According to arrest warrants, Higgins, who was working for Wellpath at the time, allegedly placed the victim in a chokehold and walked him down the hallway in June 2025…
