A nearby stationary front, a slow-moving upper-level low to the west, and Hurricane Joaquin to the east all worked in unison to create an epic, 1,000-year flood.

From October 1 to October 5, torrential rainfall poured down on South Carolina.

All-time rainfall records were shattered from the Midlands to the coast. Totals ranged from 10 to 26”.

It was too much rain in too little time, and the dangerous flood left many in a life-threatening situation…
