MARION COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — It was two years ago Sunday that Jaremy Smith embarked on a cross-country crime spree that ended with his alleged killing of a Pee Dee paramedic and admitted deadly roadside ambush of a New Mexico State police officer.
By the time Smith’s crusade of violence ended with his March 15 arrest in Albuquerque, New Mexico, South Carolina investigators were nearly certain the Marion man killed Phoenesia Machado-Fore, who disappeared two days earlier.
GPS data from her stolen white BMW, along with witness statements placing Smith at her Marion County home hours before her body was found behind an abandoned Nichols residence, gave investigators a clear path to follow.
