Columbia man sentenced in 2023 Myrtle Beach shooting, kidnapping case

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Columbia man has been sentenced for a 2023 Myrtle Beach shooting and kidnapping.

Collins Bates, 32, pleaded guilty on Monday, a month before his trial was scheduled to start, according to the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

According to the solicitor’s office, the judge sentenced Bates to 15 years in prison for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon.

The assault charge is a violent, serious offense under the State’s Three Strikes Law, and the solicitor’s office said that the charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison…
