Family files federal civil rights lawsuit after being pulled over at gunpoint in South Carolina

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A federal civil rights lawsuit has been filed against the South Carolina Department of Public Safety and a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper, according to attorney Tyler Bailey.

Bailey said the lawsuit comes after a Blythewood couple was wrongfully pulled over at gunpoint, handcuffed and detained in front of their three young children during a traffic stop in Sumter County in 2025.
