SLED investigates state lawmaker over alleged budget provision conflict

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed that it was investigating State Rep. Gilda Cobb Hunter, D-Orangeburg, over allegations that she was using state funding to personally benefit herself.

Attorney General candidate, State Sen. Stephen Goldfinch, R-Georgetown, raised concerns Tuesday during a Senate Finance Committee meeting about a $350,000 provision in the 2026-2027 budget for the Community Advocacy Program, a nonprofit for which Cobb-Hunter is the executive director.
