City of Columbia to host homeownership basics community event for first-time home buyers

Columbia, South Carolina – For many people, buying a home begins with a dream but quickly turns into a long list of questions. How much can I afford? What does pre-approval mean? Who do I talk to first? What happens before closing? In Columbia, city officials are preparing to bring those answers into one room.

The City of Columbia Community Development Department will host a homebuyer workshop on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Virginia Bedford Community Center, located at 1113 Recreation Dr. in Columbia.

The event is designed as a one-stop session for residents who want to better understand the home buying process before taking one of the biggest financial steps of their lives.

The workshop is especially aimed at first-time buyers, but it may also be helpful for anyone who wants a clearer look at what homeownership requires.
