COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A man pleaded guilty Monday to shooting a Richland County Sheriff’s Department K-9 during a 2024 chase.
Jeremy Taylor, 19, pleaded guilty to counts that included assault, cruelty to a police dog, failure to stop for a blue light and possession of a stolen handgun. A judge sentenced him to eight years in prison, to run concurrently with the two years he’s already served.
Those charges were linked to a March 2024 incident where Taylor was shot by a Richland County deputy during a chase when he was 17. Authorities said he and a 14-year-old stole a truck and didn’t pull over for deputies.
The pursuit later led to a foot chase, during which Taylor shot RCSD K-9 Kobe. That’s when deputies returned fire and “neutralized” Taylor before taking him into custody…
