Two men plead guilty ahead of Synovus bank fraud trial set to begin in July

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Preparations for a bank fraud trial which will begin in July are underway.

Monday morning, Judge Bobby Peters heard guilty pleas from two men associated with the case, which happened in 2021. Santorio Patterson and Deangelo Witherspoon will be sentenced on June 24.

According to Assistant District Attorney Meghan Bowden, the method of the crime was “ingenious.” In 2021, multiple individuals worked together to scam Synovus Bank out of $181,000 by using fraudulent cashier’s checks over the course of a month…
